On 7 September 2026 WorkOfficially launched Career Bridge: add the job you have or had, prove it with a work email code, a reference, a colleague invite, a LinkedIn export or a pay slip, and start freelancing with verified employment on your profile instead of a blank page. Pick Moonlighter, Part-timer or Independent, keep your employer out of it with Open, Discreet or Hidden, and let a private meter tell you when the numbers add up.
Picture a designer with eight years at a software company. She has shipped a design system, run a rebrand and mentored two juniors. One evening she opens a freelance profile, and the profile says: joined today, no reviews, no history. A client who lands on it sees exactly what they would see on the profile of someone who finished a bootcamp last month. So she bids low, takes a job that is beneath her, and hopes a review will fix it.
That is the cold start. Reputation Bridge solved it for people who had already earned reviews elsewhere. On 7 September 2026 we shipped the answer for everyone else: the people whose track record is a job. Career Bridge turns verified employment into a starting reputation, honestly labelled, and lets you freelance at whatever pace your life allows.
Why marketplaces reset everyone to zero
A marketplace can only show what it can verify, and until now the only thing it could verify was work done on the marketplace itself. A job title typed into a profile box proves nothing, so platforms treat it as nothing. The result is a system where a decade of employment counts for less than one five-star review. The fix is not to take titles on trust. It is to verify them properly and then be honest about what that verification means.
What Career Bridge does
After you sign up, "Finish setting up" asks whether you want Reputation Bridge, Career Bridge, both or neither. Choose Career Bridge and you add an employment record: employer, title, dates, industry and company size. A current job or a past one, both count. Then you prove it, and once the record is verified three things happen:
- A Verified professional badge appears on your profile, with a privacy choice: show the employer's name, or only a description such as "8 yrs, senior designer, 500-person software company".
- A starting reputation is applied: a provisional trust boost, honestly capped, explained in full below.
- A starter kit is drafted from the verified history: a headline, an overview and three service packages, ready for you to edit and publish.
Until your first completed job the badge reads "Verified employment, new here". A client always knows they are looking at proven employment and a new freelancer, not a padded history.
The proof ladder, in plain words
There are five proofs, from weakest to strongest. Strong proofs verify instantly. Senior titles, mismatched email domains and document-only proofs are checked by a person, because those are the cases where an automatic check is easiest to fool.

Verification lasts 12 months, then we ask for a fresh code. It works with any employer that gives you a work email, from a ten-person agency to a large enterprise, and the reference and document routes cover employers that do not.
Three stages, your choice
Career Bridge does not assume you want to quit. You pick a stage and you can change it whenever your circumstances change.
- Moonlighter. Keep the job. Evenings and weekends, a weekly hours cap you set, small fixed-price gigs first, and employer-safe mode so your side work stays where your employer will not stumble on it.
- Part-timer. A 20-hour week built on retainers and recurring clients, the ones who booked you for an evening job and want you every month.
- Independent. The whole platform: hourly billing with the time tracker, contracts, invoices, escrow on fixed-price work and the AI connectors.
Privacy, and the employer-safe story
Most people who moonlight have one worry above all others: what if my employer finds the profile? Career Bridge answers it with three privacy modes.
- Open. Indexed by search engines, employer name shown.
- Discreet. Indexed under your full name, with employer and client names hidden.
- Hidden. Kept out of Google, invisible to viewers from the companies you name, and shown as a first name and an initial.
Employer-safe mode in the Moonlighter stage builds on Hidden. Your page does not appear in search results, a viewer from a company you have named cannot see it, and your weekly cap keeps the side work at the size you chose. We never contact your employer. The only person we ever write to is the referee you name, and only with the two questions you have seen. It is still worth reading your contract for any clause about outside work before you start; no privacy setting changes what you have signed.
The hope meter and the leaving-well checklist
Enter your salary once and Career Bridge keeps a private meter: your freelance earnings over the last 90 days against a quarter of that salary. Four milestones mark the way: First income at 5%, Side income established at 30%, Could go part-time at 70% and Could go independent at 100%. The salary and the meter are never shown to anyone, and the meter promises nothing; it simply tells you where you are.
Next to it sits a leaving-well checklist for the day the meter says one thing and your nerves say another: what your contract says about outside work, your notice period, your own equipment, taxes, insurance, a three-month cushion, clients who rebook, and when, or whether, to tell your employer.
What the boost is, and what it is not
We want to be precise here, because a starting reputation is easy to oversell. The boost is provisional. It sits below the tiers that real reviews unlock, it can never lift a trust score above 49 of 100, and it fades between day 90 and day 180 unless real client reviews take over. It does not make you look experienced on WorkOfficially; the badge says "new here" until your first completed job. What it does is get you past the blank page, so that a client comparing two new profiles can see that one of them comes with eight verified years behind it. From there, the work speaks.
