The idea: hire vetted talent, keep your reputation portable, pay 0% fees with WRK, and protect every contract with escrow - all under one account.
WorkOfficially started in 2021 with a simple frustration: freelance marketplaces are great at connecting people and terrible at being fair to them. Fees are high, your hard-won reputation is trapped on whatever platform you built it on, and getting paid is full of risk for both sides. We set out to build the marketplace we wished existed - one that works, officially, for everyone on it.
The three problems we set out to fix
- Fees that punish success. A 10-20% cut on everything you earn is the norm. We built a 0%-fee path (pay in WRK) so freelancers keep what they earn.
- Reputation you can't take with you. Switch platforms and you start at zero, no matter how many five-star years you have. We built Reputation Bridge so your verified history comes with you.
- Payment risk. Freelancers fear not getting paid; clients fear paying for work that never arrives. WorkSafe escrow protects both sides on every contract.
